WELCOME

We are Independence Continuation High School, a California model continuation high school.  Independence High School was founded on July 1, 1973.  Independence High School strives to maximize student potential so that students can be college-prepared and career-ready with 21st century skills.

SCHOOL VISION

Every member of the Independence High School community will inspire students to become lifelong learners and producers. Elevated expectations for students include an emphasis on academics, technology, and good citizenship with a focus on acceptance and comprehension of the multicultural community, and lifestyles that make up the City of Los Angeles.

Independence High School is devoted to providing alternative pathways in education, which enable all students to realize and maximize their potential.

EXPECTED SCHOOL WIDE LEARNING RESULTS

ESLRs: As graduates, Independence High School students will be 

Critical Thinkers who apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information from a variety of sources, and who will acquire high-level content knowledge through critical reading and investigative activities across curricula to meet Common Core Standards.

Adept Problem Solvers who identify and resolve both academic and social problems, and who establish clear and measurable objectives to overcome obstacles.

Responsible Citizens who are able to work collaboratively, while being sensitive to social and cultural differences among individuals both at INDEPENDENCE HS and within the community, and who live productively through employment, civic engagement, and commitment to lifelong learning.

Effective Communicators – who speak, listen, write and read purposefully and insightfully, and who are able to articulate their points of view respectfully and with dignity.
